HIP aims to reduce the prevalence of diarrheal disease, especially among children under five, through the promotion of three key hygiene practices: hand washing with soap, treatment and safe storage of water at the household level, safe disposal of feces through improved sanitation. HIP also promotes the integration of hygiene improvement practices into HIV/AIDS and other health and non-health programs, such as schools.
